Joan Iverson Nassauer, FASLA
Professor, University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability
Joan Iverson Nassauer, FASLA, is a Professor at the University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability working in the field of ecological design. She develops design proposals to improve ecosystem services, and uses social science methods to learn how human experience affects and is affected by landscapes. A Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects (1992) and a Fellow of the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (2007), she was named Distinguished Scholar by the International Association of Landscape Ecology (IALE) (2007) and Distinguished Practitioner of Landscape Ecology (1998) by US - IALE. She has developed and applied transdisciplinary approaches that make design and planning pivotal in landscape ecology's pattern/process paradigm.

Urban Greening Community Organizer, TreePeople
As the Urban Greening Community Organizer at TreePeople, Talia helps to coordinate projects & events in greater Los Angeles related to green infrastructure, urban greening and climate resiliency. She holds a graduate degree in Regenerative Studies (regenerative agriculture, green architecture, and renewable technology) from Cal Poly Pomona with thesis work focusing on placing historically underserved communities at the forefront of the green revolution. An avid traveller and foraging enthusiast, Dotson enjoys bringing regenerative strategy and technologies to communities that need it the most.

Chief Scientist, Vertus Wildlife Insurance Services
Alexandra D. Syphard, Ph.D. is chief scientist at Vertus Wildfire Insurance Services and additionally serves as an associate of the Conservation Biology Institute and an adjunct professor in Geography at San Diego State University. Alexandra is a research ecologist who analyzes the biophysical and social drivers and impacts of landscape change, particularly focusing on wildfire in California and other Mediterranean ecosystems. She has concentrated intensely on fire risk to communities and identifying the best approaches for balancing fire risk reduction with biodiversity conservation. Her research also focuses on the interactions among wildfire patterns, land use change and urban growth, climate change, vegetation dynamics and biodiversity, invasive species, and species’ range shifts.
