The BioLEAPS Travel Awards are sponsored by the IALE–North America Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity Committee. Our recently awarded NSF-funded BioLEAPS IMPLEMENTATION project aims to support professionals in the landscape ecology community through the mentorship network, ambassador program, leadership exploration programs, and intercultural competence training that aim to create a more equitable, just, and inclusive landscape ecology community.
For 2025, we anticipate awarding up to ten (10) travel grants to attend the IALE–North America Annual Meeting. Each award will include the cost of membership, conference registration, flight, and $500 that can be used for other expenses as needed.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria by the date of the annual IALE–NA meeting:

- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be actively engaged in research, education, or practice in landscape ecology
- Be willing to participate in the Intercultural Competence Assessment and Training (3-hour time commitment)
- Be willing to participate in two EID-sponsored activities during the annual meeting
- Applied before the deadline: December 16, 2024
SELECTION CRITERIA
Preference will be given to early-career members (within 10 years of receiving their terminal degree) and individuals from underrepresented communities in STEM including women, minorities, persons with disabilities, and LGBTQA+ members. Results of the awards will be communicated before the conference registration deadline, so the awardees can make travel arrangements.

The purpose of these awards is to lower barriers to participating in the IALE–North America annual meetings for individuals from underrepresented or marginalized groups so as to create a more equitable, just, and inclusive landscape ecological community. This information is needed for grant-reporting purposes and will be kept confidential to the extent allowed by law. Information that identifies you will not be shared with the IALE–NA executive board or IALE–NA members. Only the NSF–BioLEAPS IMPLEMENTATION project administrators will have access to the complete data associated with this online application and IDI assessments. Data will be downloaded after the deadline and will be stored in a secured location (offline and as an encrypted file). All identifiable information including individual demographic information and IDI assessments will be deleted after the awards are finalized and individuals are debriefed on their assessments. - Preferred Pronouns, Gender Identity, Sexual Orientation, and Racial/Ethnic Identity*
- Question regarding the ability to attend the IALE–NA annual meeting without travel support (yes or no response)*
- Question regarding whether applicant is a primary caregiver of a family member (yes or no response)*
- Title and Abstract of presentation to be given at the IALE–NA annual meeting
