Dr. Betty Kreakie, a Research Ecologist with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Research and Development, was awarded the 2025 Distinguished Service Award by the North American Regional Chapter of the International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE-NA) at the annual meeting in North Carolina, Raleigh, USA, April 13-17th. The award for Distinguished Service recognizes individuals who have contributed exceptionally to IALE-NA in terms of time, energy, and dedication to advance the priorities of IALE-NA and thus deserves special recognition.
Dr. Kreakie has served IALE-NA as a member of the Awards Committee for 10 consecutive years. First, as a member-at-large from 2014 to 2017, as Co-Chair from 2017 to 2018, and lastly as Chair from 2019 to 2023 as well as Councilor-at-large from 2020 to 2022. As Chair, Dr. Kreakie energized and organized the Awards Committee, and diplomatically handled the award process with high regard to IALE-NA members. Dr. Kreakie was always keen and delighted to distribute the awards at the awards ceremony. For the last decade, Dr. Kreakie has been instrumental in shaping the Awards Committee and has contributed exceptionally to the IALE-NA community.
